Messenger Control Aid
It's no secret, everyone hates receiving unsolicited email (better known as "spam") in their email inbox.
However, another form of spam is waiting just around the corner if you have Windows NT, Windows 2000 or Windows XP installed - better known as "Messenger Spam".
"Messenger Spam" exploits the Microsoft Windows Messenger Service, which is turned on by default, to send pop-up advertisements via the Internet to unprotected users.
"Messenger Spam" is not related to Windows Messenger, MSN Messenger, AOL Instant Messenger or any other instant messaging program.
The Windows Messenger Service was originally designed for use by system administrators to legitimately send messages to network users. However, in recent years it has become a method by which to send spam.
The spam arrives as a pop-up window with "Messenger Service" in the title bar and you don't even need to have an email account or even a Web browser to be targeted - just an active connection to the Internet.
Protect yourself from others exploiting Windows Messenger Service to send you spam by disabling the Windows Messenger Service on all of your computers.
Our free Messenger Control Aid utility allows you to disable the Windows Messenger Service on your computer (or any networked computer) and put a stop to the "Messenger Spam" once and for all.
