This registry tweak deletes the contents of the PageFile when Windows is shut down.
Caution:
Incorrectly editing the registry may render your system inoperable - requiring the re-installation of Windows.
Editing the Registry:
Open the Registry Editor (RegEdit.exe).
Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE to:
System \ CurrentControlSet \ Control \ Session Manager \ Memory Management
In the right pane of RegEdit, right-click on ClearPageFileAtShutdown and select Modify from the drop-down menu.
Note: If ClearPageFileAtShutdown does not exist:
Create it by right-clicking in the right pane of the registry editor and select New\DWORD Value from the drop-down menu.
Rename New Value #1 that is created to ClearPageFileAtShutdown and press enter - then follow the instruction given above in step 3.
In the Edit DWORD Value dialog box change the value that is in the "Value Data" section to 1.
Click OK button.
Exit the Registry Editor (RegEdit.exe).
The change to the registry is reflected the next time the system is rebooted.
Note: This tip will enhance security by clearing the PageFile however, this will increase the overall shutdown time.
Restoring the Registry Setting:
To re-enable the option, open RegEdit and open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE to:
System \ CurrentControlSet \ Control \ Session Manager \ Memory Management
Change the ClearPageFileAtShutdown value to: 0 and reboot the system.
