This registry tweak stops thumbnails of pictures being cached when you view them in Windows Explorer.
Caution:
Incorrectly editing the registry may render your system inoperable - requiring the re-installation of Windows.
Editing the Registry:
Open the Registry Editor (RegEdit.exe).
Open HKEY_CURRENT_USER to:
Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ Advanced
In the right pane of RegEdit, right-click on DisableThumbnailCache and select Modify from the drop-down menu.
Note: If DisableThumbnailCache does not exist:
Create it by right-clicking in the right pane of the registry editor and select New\DWORD Value from the drop-down menu.
Rename New Value #1 that is created to DisableThumbnailCache and press enter - then follow the instruction given above in step 3.
In the Edit DWORD Value dialog box change the value that is in the "Value Data" section to 1.
Click OK button.
Exit the Registry Editor (RegEdit.exe).
The change to the registry is reflected the next time the system is rebooted.
Note: disabling this Windows feature may slightly impact overall performance when viewing pictures in thumbnail view, depending on the actual system specification.
Restoring the Registry Setting:
To re-enable the thumbnail caching option in Windows Explorer, open RegEdit and open HKEY_CURRENT_USER to:
Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ Advanced
Change the DisableThumbnailCache value to: 0 and reboot the system.
