Display hidden devices in Device Manager.

"View hidden devices in Windows Device Manager."

This registry tweak displays devices normally hidden in the Device Manager such as disconnected printers, scanners, USB devices, etc.

Caution:
Incorrectly editing the registry may render your system inoperable - requiring the re-installation of Windows.

Editing the Registry:

  1. Open the Registry Editor (RegEdit.exe).

  2. Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE to:

    System \ CurrentControlSet \ Control \ Session Manager \ Environment

  3. In the right pane of RegEdit, right-click on DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES and select Modify from the drop-down menu.

    Note: If DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES does not exist:

    • Create it by right-clicking in the right pane of the registry editor and select New\String Value from the drop-down menu.

    • Rename New Value #1 that is created to DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES and press enter - then follow the instruction given above in step 3.

  4. In the Edit String dialog box enter the following value into the "Value Data" section:

  5. Click OK button.

  6. Exit the Registry Editor (RegEdit.exe).

The change to the registry is reflected immediately, therefore all devices normally hidden in the Device Manager will be shown.

Restoring the Registry Setting:

To restore Windows to the default setting, open RegEdit and open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE to:

System \ CurrentControlSet \ Control \ Session Manager \ Environment

Change the Default value to: 0
