This registry tweak will speed up the time the menus on the Windows Start menu are shown.
By default, Windows has a small delay inbuilt before it shows the menu - this tweak allows you to set the timing to your choosing.
Caution:
Incorrectly editing the registry may render your system inoperable - requiring the re-installation of Windows.
Editing the Registry:
Open the Registry Editor (RegEdit.exe).
Open HKEY_CURRENT_USER to:
Control Panel \ Desktop
In the right pane of RegEdit, right-click on MenuShowDelay and select Modify from the drop-down menu.
Note: If MenuShowDelay does not exist:
Create it by right-clicking in the right pane of the registry editor and select New\String Value from the drop-down menu.
Rename New Value #1 that is created to MenuShowDelay and press enter - then follow the instruction given above in step 3.
In the Edit String dialog box enter the following into the "Value Data" section to:
Any number between 0 and 500 (0 is faster - 500 is slower).
Click OK button.
Exit the Registry Editor (RegEdit.exe).
The change to the registry is reflected the next time the system is rebooted.
Restoring the Registry Setting:
To return the Start menu to its default value, open RegEdit and open HKEY_CURRENT_USER to:
Control Panel \ Desktop
Change the MenuShowDelay value to: 400 and reboot the system.
